As we walked out of our office for a mid-day coffee break (note: reusable mug in tote) we were reminded of the energy and excitement that is generated by a public event. We were also reminded of how lucky we are to work downtown. Not only can we commute via public transportation, every championship parade goes right past our office door. Gotta love that!
Everyone was in great spirits today. Even the Lenox Hotel across the street was sporting a sign that said "Congratulations Boston Celtics, From the Other Green Team in Town" referring to their sustainable status as a hotel.
After watching the parade we all came back to the office and talked about what a great experience it was. We realized two things: 1. These types of events are important for our culture, for our economy and for our basic human needs. Even though throwing a party or having a parade is not the most environmentally friendly thing to do, it is socially beneficial and hey - it's fun! So let's just try to create the least amount of waste possible when planning these events. 2. We need to work on the basic rule of thumb - No littering. As Betty put it, "Who didn't get the memo on No Littering?"
All around this was a great time and I was happy to be a part of it. We did not leave anything behind and we only took memories.
What a great season! Go Celtics!
Any chance this was biodegradable confetti?!?!?! I'm plagued by doubts!
